Sotero Torres
I was born in Tehuacan Puebla, Mexico. I was raised in many different areas due to my father’s work including Veracruz, Puebla and Oaxaca. I am the youngest of 8 children. Growing up I loved being involved in team sports, including basketball, baseball, and soccer.
I went to high school in Mexico City, at the time it was the LDS Benemerito De Las Americas, which is now the MTC Mexico. I went on to serve my mission in Mexico City North which I feel was an extension of my high school years. I also attended university and received my bachelor’s in business administration.
In Mexico I was in the textile industry managing operations for factories. There were anywhere from 750-800 people to look after. When I moved to the US in 2006, I worked in manual labor jobs like painting, building, etc. As a second job I entered the restaurant business where I saw a use for my bachelor’s degree, which is what I do now in my current management job for Duke’s Slickrock Grill.
I am very proud of my daughters and my youngest son for overcoming their own challenges with compassion. I currently live in Hanksville where I have lived for almost 10 years and enjoy the outdoors, discovering new hiking routes, and finding hidden gems in my local area. I am proud to be representing our small but mighty town.
