Current Position: Chief of Visitor and Resource Protection at Capitol Reef National Park

In my current position I supervise the law enforcement and emergency services staff at Capitol Reef National Park. I coordinate with our sister federal agencies and our county partners to assist in emergency response both inside the park and outside the park. I have been an advanced EMT since 2009 and have extensive experience with Search and Rescue with an emphasis in technical rope rescue.

Before being at Capitol Reef I was the Chief of Visitor and Resource Protection at Black Canyon of the Gunnison and Curecanti National Recreation Area (managed jointly). Before that I was the Chief of Emergency Services at Grand Canyon National Park. Before that I spent 13 years at Zion National Park in several different roles from field ranger to Deputy Chief of Visitor and Resource Protection. I have also worked at Rocky Mountain National Park, Joshua Tree National Park, Canyonlands NP, Arches NP and way back in 2001 I was a seasonal ranger at Capitol Reef.

I was born in Salt Lake City, went to East High School then Graduated with a BS from the University of Utah. I have been visiting southern Utah since I was a child. I met my wife, Adrienne, when I was a seasonal ranger at Arches in 1999. She also worked seasonally at Capitol Reef for a few years and fell in love with it. We bought a house in Torrey in 2010 and visited often. We are incredibly happy to now be living in that house full-time with our two dogs. (Adrienne recently started working at Capitol Reef again.)

I am looking forward to finishing out my career here at Capitol Reef and being a productive member of the community once I retire.
